Is the misconception about which side of the record the needle goes on really that widespread, or is it just that the few who have it wrong keep making videos?

.i had to stay away from this post till today.makes me want to cry
,.i gave some records last week to a second hand store,they were playing edison dd on a columbia with steel needles.i think they thought i was crazy giving them a dozen records they could play and i didnt want the edisons,the lady thought the edisons were worth 100 bucks each.they were destroyed.i told her to put them in her dumpster.sad sad sad,that poor pixie!

I just picked up an Edison DD machine today from Craigslist, complete with about 40 records. It was disappointing to find the records were ordinary 78's, and I suspect they've been played with that machine. So, what's worse, playing a DD record on a Victrola, or a Victor record on a DD machine?
