I have to agree that overall it was a good auction. I was able to pick up a Suitcase Home (with a reproduction horn), a 31 inch Nipper, fighting roosters, and a large brass horn. All at fair prices. I can not complain that I did not get the to die for deal but I was able to find what I was looking for and had fun.
As for the auctioneer, he and his substitute did a great job of moving things along, selling the collection in a fraction of the time of Stanton's Auction. They did not pretend to know the machines they were selling and only made a few errors by claiming to know something about a particular item.
The only advice I could give is to look for exactly what you are interested in and would recognize if it is complete or parted together (as many of these machines had been).
The best would to have Mr Stanton provide the commentary and this group do the selling.

Yes, I was at the Oscar Johnson sale and still have the sale catalog around here somewhere. There was a ton of stuff, but I remember lots of poorly repainted horns and put-together machines, so you had to be very careful. As a radio collector, I still wish I had bought the rare deForest paper cone speaker that sold for almost nothing while I wasn't paying attention.downsouth wrote:Speaking of a large amount of machines being sold at one time, does anybody here remember the sale of the collection of Oscar Johnsons in Shell Lake Wisconsin back in the early to mid 90's? There were alot of machines and the auction company made many mistakes, dropping horns, mixing up purchases etc. Had a good time, but it was alot to take in at once.
