WANTED: 4-weight governor for later model Edison Triumph

I always thought that Triumphs had a 3 weight governor. When did they start to use the 4 weight governor?

The switch was made while the model Ds were in production, and therefore the 3-weight ones are known as model D1 and the ones that followed the switch as model D2. The final Triumph models (E and F) had the 4-weight ones.

But I've got a D2 with a 4 weight governor and an E with a 3 weight? Would an E model always have a four weight? I've got a second E model that has the 4 weight.

Valecnik, you'd think that after they made the switch then they "stayed switched"--but perhaps not so? Maybe some using up of parts later on, while using the later model designations?

Well, in any case, when it comes to a 4-weight, I want one!!!

I checked my Triumph D-2, and it has the 3 wight governor. What advantage was the 4 weight governor, as opposed to the 3 weight one? I thought by this time Edison was cutting coasts.

One thing to remember is D and D2 has nothing to do with the governor. The D2 which is stamped on the ID plate as opposed to just D indicates that the machine left the factory with the 11 panel Cygnet horn option. So you could have a D or a D2 with a 3 weight or 4 weight governor depending on when it was made. Before the governor upgrade or after.

Thanks for this clarification, Larry! So the D2s, I assume, came out with the cygnet bracket installed in the back?

It's also important to remember that the D1 and D2 were made simultaneously for a time, so there's not a strict chronological progression from model to model.
