Took some time to get the motor out this morning.
I’m not going to touch anything just yet until I talk to Brett Hurt. I’m local to him so hopefully we can get this squared away with each other.
One of the weights pictured has come loose. Steal band broke. Brake pad is pretty worn. Lots of nasty old grease.

Weights should be an easy fix, I had a similar problem with an Edison Standard Phonograph, where the loose weight causes a "banging" noise when running, rescrewing the weight fixes the problem but you might want to find something stronger as the screws tend to fall out and prove unreliable anyways.
I'm not sure about the brake pad, but be careful when handling this motor, if you move or remove one of the gears, the motor can "discharge", and spin very rapidly. It's super easy to crush a finger, so run the motor until it's out of charge if possible to avoid that.

It’s fully unwound. Not sure I’ll go any further into this until I have someone with me with experience in these things.
I have too many irons in the fire at moment that need taken care of before I dig into this too far. This weekend will take care of that. Off to do annual oil change on the outboard! Fishing season is starting!!
