Re: For Sale 2 edison machines Ediphone and Master Shaver
I will attest these are really nice units folks to learn about recording. The Ediphone blanks are plentiful and new ones are available too. I have done some good music recording on these machines before, as the recorder is very similar to a studio recorder. This is also one of the best shavers you can get, There is one in the Los Angeles recording studio and it makes the cleanest, quietest blanks.
The photo does however point out something, people were not believing about the stability of dictation machine blanks. You see the white haze on the blank in the photograph, it is over 50 years old and still weeping, see the blue haze. This is why these blanks can't make recordings that will last forever, well maybe in california, Arizona and Texas, but for the rest of us, they are hard to keep without this fog or bloom it is not mold. In fact when you open a sealed box of Ediphone blanks they have this blue paper that says Important New Cylinders Should be Shaved before Using and these new blanks will look like the one on there, most likely NOS.
