"My Man" by Gladys Rice 1929 (Edison Needle Cut Record)

Post by melvind »

A rare Electric Needle Cut Edison record. A bit worn with a little swish sound and hiss through most of the record. I have never owned a mint or near mint Needle Cut Edison so I do not know how clear they sound. The orchestra sound is quite amazing on this record but the whole thing is recorded quite softly so it had to be amplified to get the fullness of sound it needs.

This is a song made popular by Fanny Brice in the Ziegfeld Follies that became her signature song for most of the rest of her career. Gladys Rice sang for Edison Records for many years on Cylinder, Diamond Disc, and finally Needle Cut records. This record is a very late Edison record from January 1929. It was released as an electrically recorded Needle Cut record number 11032, and according to the DAHR archive information, a simultaneously recorded Diamond Disc number 52514.

Don’t accidentally pass them up due to ignorance like I did.

I have this record on DD in E+ condition! I love it! It was owned by that guy 50 or 60 years ago who liked to stamp the year on the record label in red ink.
