HMV 102C Case Feet

Post by Lah Ca »

My HMV 102c is missing a foot. It appears to have fallen out of its socket.

Six of the seven remaining feet are quite worn. The one that is not looks suspiciously new but only comparatively so. It seem that someone in the distant past may have fabricated a new foot by turning a piece of dowelling on a lathe.

What were the original feet made of? Are they replaceable?

Thx.

The picture here is not of my machine but is one of the same era (mid 30s).

The original feet were made of rubber which eventually hardens, shrinks and falls out.
I have adapted rubber cistern washers but can only obtain them in black. Two are needed to achieve the correct depth.

Thank you for the reply.

I am thinking about checking out kayak drain plugs. In North America, these are ½" in diameter and made of neoprene rubber. The holes for feet in the 102cs are ½". The plugs could be cut down to the depth of the foot hole and glued in. The plug flange would/could make a nice foot. Unfortunately these are also only in black.

But kayak drain plugs are available in (a lurid) blue silicone rubber.

These domed push in bumper plugs might be stylistically more fitting but are only available in black.

What did the original feet look like?

The ones that remain on my 102c are worn very flat, but it looks like they might have been domed.

Frustratingly nobody ever posts pictures of the bottom(s) of 102 cases.

The feet are not domed but are slightly rounded at the edges. Of all my 102's these are the best preserved :
