OT - For Jerry B - Schwinn stuff

Post by Tinkerbell »

As Jerry and I have discussed old Schwinn bicycles previously, I had mentioned that my brother both restores (and oftentimes customizes from random scrapped parts) old Schwinn bicycles.

I thought I'd share a bicycle he just built (from some salvaged parts) for his friend who is a big Dodger fan... :rose:

I love it! I normally don't go for customs but it's so creative. It's obvious he is very talented and does a complete job. I'm an Oregon Duck fan and have looked for a Donald Duck bike made by Monarch. It's really cool. Donald's head is the head light and the horn. When you use the lights, his eyes light up and when you press the horn button, he quacks. Perfect for a Duck! Thanks, Jerry

I'm going to have to Google the Donald Duck bike because now you have me curious!

I think my brother prefers to do normal restorations as opposed to custom bicycles, too, but he had one friend ask for a custom bicycle for his wife once upon a time, and since then he's been busy doing customizations for mostly family and some friends.

In fact, last October my brother and husband did a vehicle swap. We had a 69 convertible Firebird 400 that has sat in our garage for the past 5 years. My brother was always salivating over it, so we finally decided to trade it with him for a vehicle we (well, technically, my husband) would actually allow out of the garage.

Anyway, long story short... when my brother trailered out our new vehicle from California, he also brought along a custom bicycle he built for my husband, (sort of as a consolation for letting his "baby" go). It was built on a 1969 Schwinn corvette frame (to stay consistent with the year of the Firebird), painted in the original Firebird's Verdoro green color, and the custom chain guard decal said "Schwinn Firebird." It was quite a touching gesture. :rose:

Is this the Donald Duck bicycle? If so, it's sweet...

That said, there is a listing on Ebay right now for one; it doesn't come cheap, nor restored... but it looks like a good restoration project in the right hands! :rose:

eBay Item #250801386636

There is also an expired listing for a completely restored one which did not sell:

eBay Item #110671381656

On a whim, I sent this link to Bill Griffith..... perhaps he could use the photos for refs?
